Cloud for CAP Paying Agencies
Scale up you your area monitoring using CREODIAS
The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the European Union aims at sustainably improving the European agricultural productivity while ensuring a decent standard of living of farmers within the EU.
What is CREODIAS?
CREODIAS is a platform for processing and analysing large-scale datasets directly in the cloud. It is a commercial part of the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) - an open ecosystem that provides free instant access to a wide range of data and services from the Copernicus Sentinel missions. Paying Agencies can benefit from cloud resources on CREODIAS to enhance their performance, scale their workloads and improve efficiency of processing their data.

Why use CREODIAS cloud resources?
- Direct access to 100 petabytes of Sentinel data without download bottlenecks
- On-demand cloud compute (VMs, storage, GPUs) for scalable analysis and AI
- Secure environment with EU data governance compliance for your Storage
- Cost-efficient: pay-as-you-go with predictable credits
- Ready to use, cloud supported Sen4CAP, QGIS - software packages, AMS as a Service
Who can apply?
The system is open and available for anyone! Paying Agencies can apply for financing for large scale processing in terms of:
- Area Monitoring, CAP (EU Common Agricultural Policy) monitoring,
- Remote sensing and land monitoring services, landcover services.
How to apply for cloud resources financed from EU funds?
- Visit dataspace.copernicus.eu and create an account (using your institutional email)
- Submit a request to become a service user: https://dataspace.copernicus.eu/copernicus-services-user/ including:
- Intended use (CAP monitoring, analysis, etc.),
- Estimate cloud resource needs,
- Choose the processing package for monthly average usage:
- Medium - 4 vCores, 16 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD
- Large - 32 vCores, 128 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
NB: Selected package allows you to scale up CDSE services: openEO, SentinelHub
- While waiting for the approval (up to 2 weeks) you can use a free trial option to test the prepare your cloud environment:
- Go to creodias.eu OR go to Services on CDSE -> CREODIAS,
- Log in using Federated Identity Provider (Choose: Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem),
- Create an Organization in CREODIAS,
- Ask for initial free credit allocation (and quota) by clicking “Start Free trial” button,
- Run your experiment / processing.

The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)
CAP of the European Union aims at sustainably improving the European agricultural productivity while ensuring a decent standard of living of farmers within the EU. Under the reformed CAP, Paying Agencies are expected to verify farmers’ claims with satellite evidence via the Area Monitoring System (AMS), moving routine checks from costly field visits to continuous, parcel‑level monitoring based on Copernicus Sentinel data.
CREODIAS
CREODIAS is purpose‑built for this job: it has the full Copernicus archive with scalable compute and ready‑to‑use tools so Paying Agencies can process national‑scale workloads without moving data while aligning with CAP requirements. Crucially, the EU is financing cloud services for CAP Paying Agencies - it offers a Paying Agency‑specific, Commission‑provided service with DG AGRI‑sponsored cloud credits. Choosing CREODIAS lets Paying Agencies stand up AMS faster and at lower risk and cost, on infrastructure provided by EU-based provider.
