Similarly, to effectively process the large amounts of data available, you will need to know how to manage the necessary (virtual) infrastructure and set up the processing.

The openEO web service standard was designed to facilitate quick access to data. It also offers processing capabilities through a range of pre-defined processes, while also allowing users to integrate their own code. This reduces the level of technical expertise required to work with earth observation data.

The openEO standard also enables the creation of an ecosystem of openEO backend providers, which allows users to access a broader range of datasets. This is one of the objectives of the ecosystem. Additionally, the standard incorporates FAIR principles whenever possible and aims to enable reproducible science.
