The Sentinels for Common Agricultural Policy - Sen4CAP project aims at providing the European and national stakeholders of the CAP with validated algorithms, products, workflows and best practices for agriculture monitoring relevant for the management of the CAP. The project pays particular attention to providing evidence on how Sentinel-derived information can support the modernization and simplification of the CAP in the post-2020 timeframe.

The project is developing an open-source system able to automatically ingest and process Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 time series in a seamless way to derive four products: (i) crop type maps, (ii) grassland mowing detection products, (iii) agricultural practices monitoring product focusing on the detection of harvests, catch crops, nitrogen-fixing crops and land-lying fallows, and (iv) biophysical indicators.

Sen4CAP has been setup by the European Space Agency in direct collaboration and on request of DG-Agri, DG-Grow and DG-JRC. It also involves seven Paying Agencies (Czech Republic, France, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Spain and Romania) acting as pilot countries.
